This course explores various themes and theories concerning society, history, and culture (including literature and other cultural productions) in both European and global contexts. Students will be introduced to key concepts, theories, and methods needed to understand the complexities of the societies, histories, and cultures of their chosen language area. At the same time, the course situates these in a broader European and Global context to shed light on transnational and global connections, allowing students the possibility of transcending traditional national and linguistic divisions and pose broader comparative questions.
