Content

This course considers the relationship between archaeology and art. How have archaeologists explained, discussed and analysed iconographic material? How can iconographic material be interpreted? How has the way that archaeologists have thought about artistic material changed through time? Material for discussion in this course will largely be drawn from North East Africa and the Near East, and may range from the Prehistoric period to the Modern day.

The course will particularly compliment any previous study of the archaeology or history of Ancient Egypt or Africa.
The course consists of lectures with active participation of the students and practical exercises, including up to six smaller assignments and one larger midway in the semester and an oral presentation. The students will be asked
work individually and / or in groups.
Students need to be able to read English texts.
