Kurset sigter mod at give de studerende kompetencer til at arbejde med musikvidenskabelige problemstillinger i et bredt perspektiv og sætter med udgangspunkt i fagets akademiske rammer fokus på følgende kernepunkter:
Viden om og forståelse af
· hvordan man kan udfolde en musikvidenskabelig problemstilling
· hvordan en given problemstilling er positioneret inden for en samtidig musikvidenskab
Færdigheder i at
· gennemføre en grundig undersøgelse af et musikvidenskabeligt emne, f.eks. et emne der angår musikalsk antropologi, populærmusikforskning, musikhistorie, sound studies, musikkens teknologiske, identitetsmæssige, mediebaserede, genremæssige eller samfundsmæssige perspektiver, værkanalyse eller musikpædagogik.
· arbejde kritisk med musikvidenskabelige metoder og formulere problemstillinger, herunder sådanne som belyser samspillet mellem musik, individ og samfund.
· formidle det undersøgte stof mundtligt på en klar og hensigtsmæssig måde.
Kompetencer i at
· arbejde selvstændigt og reflekteret med et afgrænset og selvstændigt formuleret, musikvidenskabeligt emne på en videnskabeligt holdbar måde, dvs. på et velreflekteret og metodisk grundlag, hvor formalia beherskes tilfredsstillende, og formidle dette arbejde i skriftlig form.
What is research? And what does it mean to do research in
musicology – be it in popular music studies, sound studies,
historical musicology or musical anthropology?
In this course we discuss these general, epistemological questions
as well as the very practical tasks required to conduct research
around music and sound at the current state of research.
We will therefore explore a wide variety of methods from the areas
of musical anthropology, sound studies, and music history.
This journey through a number of highly diverse methods and their
achievements allows the students to learn:
How to detect the particular issues at stake in a given research
field?
How to find an area of research interest in a particular research
field?
How to find a research gap based on the current state of research
in this area?
How to find the appropriate research method and how to work
critically with this method?
How to address and work with the limits each research method has?
How to present the research result in an adequate form?
In each of the weeks (aside from the last and the first week) we
will explore selected methods, approaches and research practices in
musicology. We will discuss relevant texts, you will receive basic
introductions, we will listen to, watch and discuss selected
examples, there will be individual and group work, maybe
excursions.
