Content

This course aims to survey various facets of contemporary Korean society. It will be divided into 6 parts: history, economy, politics, international relations (with a focus on Northeast Asia), culture and society. The primary time period will range from the 19th century until present day. Average two weeks of class time at 4 class sessions will be devoted to each topic.

It is recommended that students have passed the course: Introduction to Korean Studies, Modern: Korean History, Society, and Culture after the Opening of Korea. For elective students there are no recommendations. All readings are in English.
