The course concerns the normative political basis for societal organization. Classical theories in political philosophy and their foundations are scrutinized, focusing in particular on recent and contemporary such theories. Themes include justice, equality, freedom, democracy, power, community, feminism, conservatism, nationalism, pluralism, multiculturalism, identity politics and methodology in political philosophy.

 

Teaching takes the form of lectures and seminars. Twice a week there is lecture; once a week there is a seminar where the students in groups work on short writing exercises and have other activities around the central texts / questions of the course.
