Content

In this course students will be introduced to theories and methods that are useful for investigating multilingual and multicultural communication. Students will work with different approaches to studying culture, including intercultural communication, intercultural pragmatics and multilingualism. Students will also work with different approaches to the study of multilingualism, including cultural linguistics, cultural phonology, language ideologies, language and identity, language and migration. As part of the portfolio exam students will carry out an individual empirical project drawing on theories and methods from the course. The output of the research project will take the format of a research article, which students can choose to modify for submission to a student journal after the end of the course with the help of the course teachers.

Efter endt kursus kan den studerende demonstrere:

 

Viden om og forståelse af

  • væsentlige problemstillinger inden for et fagligt emne
  • et udvalgt fagligt emne både for dets betydning i en bredere faglig
  • sammenhæng og for det teoretiske grundlag for den eksisterende viden om emnet.

  • diskutere de væsentlige faglige problemstillinger i det valgte emne på
  • en klar og nuanceret måde
  • indplacere det valgte emne i en relevant teoretisk sammenhæng og
  • forholde sig til de metoder, der anvendes på det pågældende felt og
  • på de praksisfelter der typisk indgår i erhvervsmæssig beskæftigelse
  • med emnet
  • give en reflekteret og selvstændig analyse med henvisning til forskningsbaseret viden om væsentlige problemstillinger inden for et fagligt emne
  • formidle forskningsbaseret viden og faglige diskussioner på en klar og
  • veldokumenteret måde i overensstemmelse med akademiske normer.

The course book will be supplemented by an online compendium consisting of research articles, handbook chapters and textbook chapters. All resources will be made available via Absalon before the course starts.

The course is organised as weekly seminars that combine lectures, group work and class discussions. In addition, the course includes workshops on methods and project work. Some weeks are set aside for project work.
This course only leads to exams Free Topic 1, Free Topic 2 and Free Topic 3.

Portfolio, A joint portfolio 21-25 standard pages.
Type of assessment details
A portfolio uploaded in Digital Exam:
- one 4-5-page essay (counts 25% of final grade)
- one 4-5-page synopsis (counts 25% of final grade)
- one 13-15-page project assignment in the form of a research article to be submitted with the final portfolio (counts 50% of final grade). The project assignment has to be based on empirical data collection. The topic for this assignment is chosen among the course topics and has to be approved by the teachers.

Gruppebestemmelser: Prøven kan kun aflægges individuelt.

Re-exam: Portfolio, 26–30 standard pages, cf. Special Provisions.
Special Provisions:
For the re-exam, the portfolio must, in addition to the mandatory elements (activities) included in the ordinary exam, contain a 4–5 standard-page response to an additional assignment. This assignment is formulated by the instructor and covers a topic or angle not already addressed in the mandatory elements.
