HENK04301U English - Free Topic A: This Thing of Darkness (KASF)

Volume 2019/2020
Content

In this course we will explore the darker sides of the human mind. Through various forms of literature and theories we will embark upon the quest to define the anatomy of hatred and particularly its (seemingly) close relationship to dehumanization, anger, greed, jealousy and destruction. We will dive into the philosophical conundrum of whether or not hatred has the capacity to cause dehumanization or if it is dehumanization that inspires hatred. In order to do this, we will explore the encounter between the subject and object of hate, projective and reactive forms of anger and hatred, prejudices and ‘monster making.’
