In this course you learn how to:

  • Plan, prepare and structure academic presentations 
  • Design and deliver informative and persuasive presentations clearly
  • Design and deliver complex arguments and counterarguments
  • Use language techniques and selected presentation techniques to create memorable academic presentations
  • Speak confidently with appropriate rate, projection, vocal variety and movement in a variety of situations such as lectures, oral exams, master theses defense, conferences etc…
  • Evaluate and critique presentations in a detailed and diplomatic way
  • Expand your comfort zone when talking to a variety of audiences and deliver presentations with charisma and ‘ethos, logos and pathos’
  • Use correct academic and domain specific language
  • Deal with fear when speaking in front of an audience

     

    This course will assist you in being able to participate in class/auditorium discussions, to deliver better oral exams and to become a memorable presenter in your future career.

‘Presentation Techniques’ is taught in a seminar style. Certain topics are taught through the flipped classroom technique.
In the course, you work on presentations in your own field of study and potentially early stages of your own research. You participate in class discussions, complete a number of practice presentations (informative and persuasive) and you demonstrate good critical thinking. You also assess your peer’s presentations and participate in a number of exercises to improve your communication skills.

Only BA students can register for this course.
MA students are not eligible for this course; instead, they should choose ‘Presentation Techniques for Graduate Students and/or ‘Academic Writing for Graduate Students.’

Oral examination
Oral exam (presentation) with material: The students’ presentation skills are assessed based on a final oral presentation (approximately 7/8 minutes) followed by a ‘Question & Answer’ session of approximately 10 minutes.

The examination is graded according to the Danish 7-point scale and based on an assessment of the student’s use of presentation techniques, structure and content, and language proficiency.
To successfully conclude the course, active participation is highly important and required for 75% of the sessions.
