Security Risk Management

Only open for students from MSc in Security Risk Management

The course is unfortunately not for exchange students.

Content

The course introduces students to the organizational context and conditions of security risk management. While risk management has always been intrinsically related to questions of organizational survival and success, a pivotal feature of current society is the increasingly fundamental and pervasive role of risk management for and throughout all types of modern organizations. Central to this development stands an expanding and changed set of risks and security problems that organizations must handle in terms of formal structure and design as well as organizational culture.

In recognizing the mutually constitutive and evolving relationship between organization and risk, the course addresses issues such as the heightened attention to security threats and hazards in the organizational environment, the proliferation of operational risk as a key organizational agenda, the reshaping of organizational systems of planning and control as systems of risk management, as well as the pursuit of organizational resilience and preoccupation with high reliability organizations. Moreover, the course takes up the issue of the relation between organizations, society and individuals and hence the question of intended and unintended effects of organizational attempts to cope with risk and security threats.

The course constitutes 7,5 ECTS credits.
