Welfare, Inequality and Mobility
The course discusses in some detail the development of the Scandinavian welfare regime, highlighting central elements such as universalism, high degree of formal labor market participation, strong emphasis on personal social services etc. But the course also discusses the challenges to the Scandinavian model from processes of Europeanization and globalization.
The students are expected to have obtained a detailed and
critical knowledge of the sociology of Scandinavian welfare, which
will provide them with analytical skills and a solid regional
competence.
Knowledge:
Students will be provided a thorough knowledge of the benefits and
challenges of welfare provision in Scandinavia.
Skills:
Students will develop empirical analytical skills that enable them
to critically assess the pros and cons of the particular welfare
organization in Scandinavia.
Competences:
Students will acquire rigorous empirical insights that will lead to
strong analytical competences viz-á-vis a particular geographical
region in a sociological perspective.

There will be an oral feedback half way through the course and a written one at the end
Registration deadline for Summer school is June 1.
The ordinary period for registration for summer school is from November 15'th to December 1'st
If the course is full after this period, it will NOT be offered
for registration again, in the extra period for registration from
May 15'th to June 1'st
