Learning Outcome
After completing the course the student is expected to
Knowledge
- explain the consequences of biofilms in chronic infections
- identify and distinguish biofilms from planktonic bacteria both in nature and in medical related situations
- identify health care problems caused by infections involving bacterial biofilms
- identify relevant biofilm model system
Skill
- analyze the consequences of biofilms in chronic infections
- discuss health care problems caused by infections involving bacterial biofilms
- analyze and discuss the results of relevant biofilm model system
Competence
- design relevant biofilm model system
- design and develop their own biofilm model including strategies for future research
Formal requirements
MSc students with a
general microbiological background on at least BSc level. The
students must be able to read and write English on a relevant
scientific level.
Teaching and learning methods
The Form of the course is
internet based E-learning modules (E-modules) with weekly
deadlines. Each E-module is composed of 1) an introduction 2) an
overview of the purpose, the subjects and the lessons learned, 3) a
short study guide 4) learning resources (which can be text, audio
and/or video files) and 5) several exercises called E-lessons. The
E-lessons are online learning activities, which can be
