NMAK16009U Gams and Modelling
MSc Programme in Mathematics-Economics
The contents of other operations research courses (such as OR1) cover the fundaments and theoretical exercises of basic mathematical programming such as linear programming. This course is more practical and focuses on the modeling, implementation and solution using GAMS of real-life problems in the fields of transportation, energy and economics.
At the end of the course the student should have:
- gained knowledge of practical opmization problems, relevant mathematical models, and suitable solution methods;
- acquired skills to comprehend and sort data for optimization problems, present a correct problem description based on data, formulate linear programming models for large-scale optimization problems, both with continuous and integer variables, implement and solve such problems in GAMS, and analyze the solutions;
- obtained competences within formulation and discussion of mathematical models for optimization problems, implementation and solution of such problems in an efficient way by use of the optimization system GAMS.
