IT & Cognition

Content

The course will address the cognitive relation between auditory (speech) and visual (body behaviours) modalities in face-to-face communication. We will work with both theoretical aspects and empirical data via lectures, hands-on and student presentations. The main aim is to introduce theoretical, methodological and practical aspects of studying multimodal communicative behaviours and their application to intelligent human-machine interfaces such as communicative virtual agents. During the course, the students choose a phenomenon to investigate in depth and they will document their work in the exam (written synopsis and oral exam).  The format of the class consists of lectures (including guest lectures), hands on and student presentations.
