HENB01096U English - Elective 1, topic 6: Poetry after Prufrock: a hundred years of experimental verse

'The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock' was published in 1915, with consequences still to be felt. In this course we shall look at questions of language and rhythm, metaphor and metonymy, layout and form, and especially at technological developments in the graphic aspects of composition.  As well as T. S. Eliot, Ezra Pound, H. D., and other American poets, we shall also look at a British tradition deriving from Thomas Hardy, Gerard Manley Hopkins and Edward Thomas.
