AANB11063U Natural Resources in Anthropological Perspective
In this course the main objective is to explore the notion of ‘natural resources’, and to show how they emerge in consequence of human interest and ingenuity. They are therefore socialized from the beginning. A special category is the ´living resources, whether animal or vegetal that points us towards an interspecies sociality.
Through the presentation of ethnographic cases from various fields, and by allowing ample time for discussion of various analytical and theoretical viewpoints, the ambition is to open up for recognition of the social constitution of natural resources.
At the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Identify central questions in the making of ‘natural resources’;
- Analyze concrete cases of resource extraction;
- Theorize the intertwinement of natural and social values;
- Apply the acquired analytical skills on new empirical cases.
Course literature will be available in Absalon on the course website.
