 Subject area: Exercise Physiology, Sports Physiology, Sports Medicine.  

 Scientific content

1) Lectures on the fitness and health effects of Team Sport, including the potential of Team Sport in the prevention and treatment of lifestyle diseases.

2) Presentation of relevant methodologies, including echo-cardiography, DXA scanning and muscle biopsy collection, including discussion of the implementation of these methods in Team Sport and Health studies.

3) Student presentations of their PhD projects related to Team Sport and Health.

4) Workshop on designing training studies in the field of Team Sport and Health.

5) Presentations and discussion in relation to the implementation of large-scale Team Sport concepts in the real world.

Learning Outcome

The aim of the course is to give PhD students more in-depths knowledge on all the recent research on the fitness and health effects of team sports in studies for participants across the lifespan, including studies on the cardiovascular, metabolic and musculoskeletal effects related to prevention and treatment of lifestyle diseases. A series of relevant methodologies will be presented and discussed in relation to future studies. In a practical workshop the students will obtain useful knowledge on how to design and conduct training studies in the area of team sport and health. The course will indeed give the students the possibility to establish a network with other PhD students and experts in their field. Last but not least, the students will be given the opportunity to present their own PhD projects and to receive feedback on their research both from the other participants as well as the lecturers.

This PhD course runs parallel with the PhD course Team Sports and Health: Psychological and Sociological perspectives. The two courses with have one joint day to discuss and present common issues and interdisciplinary perspectives on team sports.
