NSCPHD1234 New interfaces in urban planning

Volume 2014/2015
Content

We are currently experiencing dramatic changes in the basis and premises of urban form. New challenges and interfaces - such as changing climate, bottom-up urban development and interdisciplinary processes – are increasingly defining today’s transformation and development of urban areas. These conditions are suggesting and shaping new realms of understanding. The PhD-course focus on how the shifting social, environmental and cultural interfaces of our cities and professional fields influence the built environment and urban space on various scales.

Learning Outcome

The aim of the course is to offer insights into the changing conditions of urban design and planning, and to address the paradigmatic changes of this field. Through focused reading on relevant theory and methodology, the course furthermore creates a sounding board for the participants to reflect upon own research. The course focuses on addressing the process as well as the production of knowledge.

A compendium covering extracts from key literature within the field will be distributed to the participants prior to the course.

The course will be process oriented and provide room for active participation with a primarily focus on written production.

The PhD students are requested to hand in a draft paper/article/chapter prior to the first session of the course (Sept 17th ‐19th) and a revised paper/article/chapter for the second session of the course (Oct 6th ‐7th).
