During the course, participants will obtain tools and theoretical frameworks for enhancing self-awareness and insight into the cognitive preferences shaping peoples’ engagement in interpersonal collaboration, for example team-based work situations. Participants will obtain tools to map out their professional competencies, reflect on personal values, goals and objectives, recognizes or create alternative career opportunities and pathway, and choose and plan for educational and career strategies. We will map individual networks and discuss network strategies and opportunities. In the course, participants will also be introduced to the Danish labor market and different types of employment and organizational cultures. The course provides an opportunity to practice the development of written and oral skills necessary for professional career management.   

After the course, students will be able to:

Knowledge:

  • Explain the elements in the DOTS analysis and articulate how the model applies to career development
  • Understand and explain different decision making models, e.g. the effectuation model
  • Understand and explain the importance of transferable skills such as problem solving, decision making, communication, creativity for successful work life realization 
  • Explain differences between different preferences based on the basic dimensions of the Jung's Type Index (JTI) model  

 

Skill:

  • Articulate professional and personal knowledge, skills and competencies and articulate an individual profile
  • Identify potential workplaces and employement opportunities based on insight into own preferences and competencies 
  • Explore the fit between own preferences and competencies and the opportunities at the labor market
  • Structure choice situations and career decisions
  • Develop own Curriculum Vitae (academic and business)
  • Present him/herself in an oral presentations
  • Create networks

Learning Outcome

The objective of this course is to enable participants’ to relfect on and create their career through planning their education, seeing and pursuing career opportunities, and consciously designing career development to optimize personal ambitions and goals. We aim to empower participants to better deal with the inherent uncertainty involved in taking career decisions. The course will provide participants with tools for developing insight into labor market requirements and competencies that enhance employability and the ability to maneuver in the future’s complex and dynamic job market. The course will enhance participants’ ability to engage in life-long learning with a focus on how deep professional knowledge in combination with transferable competences such as communication and problem-solving skills can be used to create value in society. In addition, the personal mastery addressed in the course will support the participants in optimizing the outcome of their remaining study time.

The course consists of individual reading, lectures, individual and group exercises and workshops. During the course we will also engage with different types of organizations to learn about different job types, job contents and organizational cultures and obtain insight into the how transferable skills relate to different jobs.

Criteria for exam assesment

The written education/​​career plan will be evaluated based on the student’s ability to:

  • application of the theoretical frameworks for mapping and reflecting on own personal and professional competencies
  • identify career possibilities and opportunities and argument for the match between individual objectives and opportunities
  • mapping and identify their present network and a strategy for how to use and expand their network for achieving individual objectives
  • description of the gap between present competencies and expected future requirements and a strategy for narrowing the gap during the remaining study program time
