HTRA01261U Modern Turkish Literature in Turkish and in Translation
BA tilvalg 2007-studieordning i Tyrkisk.
The course offers an introduction to modern Turkish literature from the Tanzimat (reform) period until today. Students will be introduced to the main intellectual currents and the most important authors. The development of modern Turkish literature has been closely connected to the social and linguistic developments taking place in the Ottoman Empire and later in the Turkish Republic, partly because authors often have been public intellectuals, partly because they have been deeply affected by and commented on the social, political and cultural changes taking place in society.
For this reason the course will focus on the connections between literary currents and social change, using selected texts as examples partly in original language and partly in translation.
